Alec surprises Loneal with a thoughtful gift—a necklace—and hints at potentially calling off his engagement with Lily . The carriage ride back is uncomfortable, and when Loneal tries to express gratitude for the gift, Alec cooly responds, saying, "Why don't we pick up where we left off yesterday?"
