BUT tells YAN he never wants to harm LUNG. When he finishes, he hands in his sword to YAN. For fear that YAN will revenge them, DOU suggests giving up the 100 taels of gold and leaving Changan but BUT opposes the idea. Asked by YAN what he wants to do to YIN, BUT claims he has never thought of stealing his wife. He adds that he has already proposed a break-off of his engagement with YIN . DOU and BUT take some money to the pier to CHOW, telling him not to return to Changan. YIN wants to resign but BUT manages to talk her into changing her mind.
