It's the spring of 1945. Air raids hit Kure and the shadow of war grows darker with each passing day. The Hojo family plans a cherry blossom viewing party in light of the current situation. At the park, they see a large crowd of citizens enjoying the cherry blossoms. Suzu spots Rin (Nikaido Fumi) in the crowd and becomes upset instead . While everyone is cheering on Sachiko and Naruse, who are meeting for the first time, Suzu leaves the family to meet Rin. They both have things they want to say, but their conversation doesn't quite click. However, Suzu feels like Rin can see right through her. One day, some time after the cherry blossom viewing, news comes on the radio that a factory has been bombed. Entaro (Taguchi Tomorowo) works at the factory . Shusaku, who was a civilian, is becoming a military officer and will leave home for about three months due to training. Suzu is left speechless by the sudden news.
