Those trapped in the cave decide to accept the offer to end their lives, rather than be slaughtered by the enemies. At the monastery, Miltos and Iphigenia get married and then go to Amisos, where Osman announces to Miltos that his family is no longer alive. Miltos escapes, finds Iphigenia and a French officer helps them escape. At the port, Iphigenia and the boy enter the ship, while Miltos is arrested and taken to execution . The path crosses a river that has been turned red by human blood. Miltos finds the strength and dances the 'pirichios' dance, enticing others as well. A little later he falls down exhausted, Kerem approaches him and while everyone is waiting to kill him, he breaks his shackles and whispers to him to leave.
