Commissioner Scalise, unconscious on the ground after being hit by Saro, is rushed to the hospital, it would seem all lost for Giovanna and the child she is carrying... but a bulletproof vest, which the commissioner has decided to wear all the time since she knew she was pregnant, has worked a miracle . Manrico, to the amazement and anger of his colleagues and friends, is stopped and interrogated by the DIA as a presumed accomplice of the attacker. Vito Tonnara advises Saro to disappear from circulation for a while, Saro is terrified of what he has done. Giovanna leaves the hospital as soon as she recovers to go to the DIA and intervene in defense of Manrico . To everyone's amazement she declares that Manrico cannot be guilty of complicity in the attack because he is the father of her child. Manrico is speechless.
