Two screenwriters begin writing the script for a series about a hospital. The action begins with the arrival at the hospital of Boris Ivanovich Kozlovsky, the "new Russian", wounded during the assassination attempt. Kozlovsky, threatening with a gun, demands elite conditions for himself, the staff is trying to satisfy his demands. In Ward No. 6, a welder and an intellectual lie with Kozlovsky . Soon, the chief surgeon drops in on Boris Ivanovich, inquires about his health and hands him several magazines, informing him that on the cover of one of them is a photograph of his wife Adelaide. Kozlovsky and his mates look at the photo and find out that each of them at one time made acquaintance with this woman.
